Joel Froment II (French, b. 1938)

Joel Froment studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1962 – 1968. Obtaining a top diploma of plastic arts in 1968 he then went on to claim first prize in the Grande Prix de Rome. Between the years of 1968 – 72 Froment lived and worked as an artist in Rome with Balthus as his mentor. After a period of lyrical abstraction his work moved towards a geometric minimalist abstract style with his interests in colour and its energy. From 1996 – 2008 he chaired the MADI international movement.

Froment has exhibited extensively in Japan, the USA and in Paris. His work is exhibited in museums such as the Louvre, Dalas Museum, the museum of La Plata (Argentina) and museums in Italy and Hungary.
